The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), a non profit organization, has conducted a nationwide survey on solar power installations. Over 240 utilities participated in SEPA’s 2011 Utility Solar Rankings survey. Finally, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), a supplier of solar energy, has been selected as the topmost solar power provider for the year 2011.
PG&E supplies clean energy, mostly produced from carbon free and renewable sources, to its customers. During 2011, the company brought 162 MW of solar power to 12000 houses and business in Central and Northern California, raising the number of solar power customers to over 63,000. In addition, the company linked 135 MW of solar plants, including its own solar plant with 250 MW capacity, which is sufficient to power over 150,000 moderate houses.
As per the survey, over 62000 solar systems were installed and nearly 1500 MW of solar power was produced last year which was more than double the capacity added in 2010. This scenario demonstrates that solar power is a rapidly growing electric source in the US.
PG&E is a pioneer in providing electric utilities and natural gas in the US. The San Francisco-based company supplies clean energy to 15 million residents in Central and Northern California.
SEPA is involved in integrating solar power into the electric utilities. Over 1000 solar industries and utilities are members of SEPA. The association offers latest technology information and commercial designs, one- to-one interaction and impartial solar market intelligence.
