Aecon Group, a company involved in infrastructure and building development, with Northland Power, which operates clean energy projects, has declared that Aecon’s subsidiary, Miwel Construction has been contracted by Northland Power for building six 10 MW solar projects in Ontario.
The projects are situated close to Burk's Falls near Huntsville, and Belleville and Smiths Falls in Eastern Ontario.
The projects will be built in roughly 85 ac of land. It will be made of over 40,000 solar modules, which will be mounted on fixed structures. Using the solar energy, the solar modules will produce direct current (DC) electricity that will be transformed to alternating current (AC) later. Then, this will be changed and incorporated into the Hydro One distribution system. The projects will hire local Ontario workers and will utilize machinery manufactured in Ontario. Further, the projects will market power through Ontario's renewable energy Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program.
The construction work has commenced for all the projects and is anticipated for completion in 2013.
Over 130 MW of FIT solar projects have been acquired by Northland Power. The projects will be built between 2012 and 2014. The company possesses and operates clean power production projects in Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario.
