Solar Source, a contractor for solar products, has installed 21 solar hot water systems at different various municipal buildings in the City of St. Petersburg. More than $20,000 of electricity cost is anticipated to be saved by using these solar water heaters.
The company has installed solar water heaters at three sewage treatment plants, four fire stations, the Sanitation Operations building, the Coliseum, the city golf courses, City Hall, the Enoch Davis Rec Center, the Sunshine Center and the Water Resources Building.
The solar water heaters were installed under the city’s Solar Parks Initiative Grant Project. Further, the expenses have been borne by an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
In addition, Solar Source installs solar systems for parks and recreation centers present across the city under the Solar Parks Initiative. Moreover, the PV systems will have an educational display at the Science Center, Pinellas County to enlighten the local community about solar power.
The solar hot water systems, which are also termed as domestic hot water (DHW), utilize the solar energy to produce hot water that is stored in a tank. The usage of conventional fuels to heat water is eventually reduced by using solar energy. A solar powered system used instead of a water heater will cut down over 40,000 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions in 20 years. Hence, the utility expenditure will also be reduced.
Pinellas County based Solar Source focuses on industrial, residential and commercial projects, which includes solar pool heating, domestic water heating (solar hot water), attic ventilation, Photovoltaic (PV) and much more.
