Water Efficiency Awards Seeks Nominees

The Environment Agency and Waterwise are sending a strong message at the sixth Water Efficiency Awards that businesses saving water save money. The awards is a biennial competition celebrating the achievements of private, public and third sector organizations in rendering UK highly water efficient. Some of the award categories include landscape and gardening, innovation, community-led initiative, industry and business and more.

Presently UK businesses use around 9.8 billion cubic litres of water daily, however estimates show that it is possible to save £10million daily. Since the frequency of droughts have increased, there is climate change and population growth causing a reduction in the water quantity available in the UK, those companies that save water will subsequently become financially stable be ahead of their competitors.

Award entry is open till June end 2012 and the companies are seeking entries from organizations, which have strived to improve its water efficiency or helped others in bring down water usage.

The different categories that will be addressed in 2012 are:

  • Built environment projects
  • Industry and business projects
  • Education and campaign projects
  • Community-led initiative produc ts
  • Farming and Horticulture Projects
  • Innovation Projects
  • Landscape and Gardening Projects
  • Research and Evaluation Projects

The EA Chairman’s Award will recognize successful work conducted by water companies in dealing with the increasing demand of water. One project delivered with or by a water company which shows how water efficiency initiatives have been undertaken will be selected.

Exemplary projects in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will also be awarded.
