As a mark of the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act (CWA), a breakthrough federal law preserving US water resources, the US Conference of Mayors will conduct a panel discussion on May 31 with five mayors at the National Press Club. The progress made will be highlighted in the session and the urgent need for reforms will be emphasized.
The mayors will be involved in a conversation with reporters to enumerate local challenges and communications with EPA and provide suggestions to the Congress and EPA on how to cater to the wastewater/water requirements of cities and their residents.
After education and electrical supply, the third largest expenditure is providing safe and sufficient water and wastewater infrastructure and services and the EPA pursues a program that expands the city’s responsibility and considerably increases its financial burden. Cities are now facing the problem of increased debts and shrinking municipal funds because of single-handedly shouldering this burden.
Cities with populations of more than 30,000 comprise an official nonpartisan organization, The U.S. Conference of Mayors.
