SC Johnson and Recyclebank have collaborated to introduce the SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge, which aims to increase recycling of wastes. Americans recycle just one-and-a-half pounds of over four pounds of waste generated by them daily, adding unnecessary waste to the nation's landfills.
Hence, to reduce this action and increase waste reduction activities, the program is introduced. It encourages 50 communities across the U.S. to compete for the top recycling participation rate and SC Johnson will offer a $100,000 grant to the winning community.
The SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge together with Sustainable Behavior Change Program will aid the public to better understand about waste reduction, stated Fisk Johnson, SC Johnson’s Chairman and CEO. The SC Johnson Sustainable Behavior Change Program will bring together consumers, environmentalists and academics to identify the factors that drive behavior change in several sustainable efforts.
SC Johnson will eliminate or redirect over 480 million pounds of waste for the US landfills along with the support from Recyclebank and communities. The company’s U.S. waste footprint is the manufacturing, consumer and office packaging waste and shipping materials.
The 50 communities involved in the Challenge will unite with over 300 communities across the UK and the U.S. that have implemented Recyclebank programs to increase recycling rates. Increased recycling has significant environmental benefits, as well as a positive effect on municipal finances via revenues from the recyclable sale and disposal cost savings.
