Michael Fish, a 68 year old British TV weatherman associated with BBC, completed a BASE jump in association with Rapanui Clothing to create awareness on climate change. Michael Fish trained with qualified urban BASE jumpers in order to successfully complete the freefall jump. A parachute was used to land.
Michael Fish MBE stood at the top of tower block in central London moment before commencing his BASE Jump for climate change which he carried out with help from eco fashion brand Rapanui.
Michael Fish stated that spreading awareness on climate change was critical as inaction would lead to food and water scarcity and natural calamities like flooding of cities and towns which have already started to happen. He also stated that it is imperative to act right now rather than wait until it is too late and expressed his willingness to make sacrifices to that effect by even risking his life by jumping from buildings.
Rapanui is a clothing brand that uses organic fabric such as bamboo and cotton and adopts ethical manufacturing and environment friendly facilities powered by wind energy. The company is committed to sustainability and considers the Michael Fish BASE jump as a brilliant opportunity to spread awareness on climate change. The company’s view is that if awareness on climatic change can be spread by a 68 year old weatherman jumping from a building, then every individual can do their bit to the cause by switching off the light before leaving a room or give a thought to sustainability when they make a purchase.
