The PlugShare application from Palo Alto-based software provider Xatori has expanded its user network to include 100, 000 users.
The mobile and web based community driven application which helps in locating public and private charging stations for electric vehicles has also expanded its network of charging stations across North America to 11,000 stations from a mere 500 stations at the time the service was launched one year back.
Owing to its status as the electrical vehicle (EV) application with the maximum number of downloads, the PlugShare software from Xatori has become a veritable repository of EV behavioral information. In conjunction with GreenCharge, the sister application to PlugShare that is currently being offered for free at the iTunes App store, the company can provide information on the espousal of EVs nationwide. In order to celebrate the accomplishment of such a significant network milestone, Xatori will be publishing data derived from information gathered through PlugShare and GreenCharge. The data also lists the top ten cities in United States that are EV-ready. The top ten cities in sequential order on the basis of public charging places per 100,000 residents are Portland, Dallas, Nashville, SF Bay Area, Seattle, Orlando, Austin, Tucson, Honolulu and Washington D.C. Area. Some of the other derivatives from the PlugShare and GreenCharge data include monthly statistics indicating electrical vehicle driver behavior such as average electrical miles driven by users (1050 miles) on electrical charge worth $30 a month, savings in fuel costs of $75 a month and reduction in carbon dioxide emission by 360 lbs.
