MaxWest Reports Successful Start-Up of Second Generation Biosolids Gasification System

MaxWest Environmental Systems, a provider of gasification systems for the wastewater treatment industry, has announced that the MaxWest Biosolids Gasification System has been mechanically completed. The system is the company’s second generation gasification technology and has commenced operations.

MaxWest is a renewable energy and biosolids management company. It has a commercial process that can be used for converting biosolids, which are wastewater residuals, into clean energy. This will serve as a long-term solution for both commercial and municipal wastewater treatment facilities.

Conventional biosolids management options include land application, landfill and incineration. These are becoming difficult due to increase in landfill tip fees, transportation costs and energy prices, and stricter permits. The MaxWest Biosolids Gasification System is an environmentally friendly, sustainable, low-cost and safe option for disposal of biosolid waste.

The present second generation technology includes major developments over the previous generation technology. This had been developed at the company’s research & development facility, and took around one and a half years. The upgraded MaxWest Biosolids Gasification System has been set up at the company’s Sanford site. This system includes a gasifier and an energy recovery process integrated into the system. The new system enables higher energy conversion rates and increases the throughput by 40%. These advantages translate into lower operating costs and better energy generation.

The CEO of MaxWest Environmental Systems, Steve Winchester stated that the second generation system demonstrated progress in terms of increasing the reliability and thermal efficiency of biosolids gasification systems.
