Gehrlicher Solar, a global photovoltaics company, has announced that it has completed the 35 MWp Solarpark Perleberg. The power generated will help save around 32,000 t of CO2 annually.
The solar park is located between Hamburg and Berlin, in Brandenburg, on the grounds of the previous Perleberg military airport. The ground-mounted solar power system has a nominal capacity of 35 MWp. The grounds comprise an area of 90 ha, which is equivalent to about 125 soccer fields. The munitions in the ground were removed and following that, 144,144 Yingli modules and 39 SMA inverters were installed along with 500 km of cables. Around 25,000 posts were driven into the ground for the GehrTec Base substructure. These served as the base for the crystalline modules. The rest of the free area which was around 26 ha has been designated as compensation areas for bird habitats.
The Perleberg solar park was completed within a record time of two and a half months. Around 120 installers were employed during the project. The solar park was technically commissioned on June 30, which was on schedule. Around 33 million kWh of solar power are expected to be produced annually, which will translate to the power required annually for around 9,300 residences, that is, each household with three persons.
Gehrlicher Solar also built a dedicated 110 kV transformer station, which was used for connecting to the grid.
The CEO of Gehrlicher Solar, Klaus Gehrlicher expressed his gratitude to the previous owners of the property, the Federal Agency for Real Estate Management, and the Brandenburg Land Association for Land Use and Management, the Perleberg building authority, the Aero-Club Perleberg and the policy makers in the District of Prignitz and the City of Perleberg, for their cooperation in the project.
