Hanwha Solar, the flagship entity of the leading Korean enterprise, the Hanwha Group, has supplied photovoltaic (PV) modules of total capacity 7.7 MW to the largest rooftop solar installation in France.
French EPC and Hanwha customer, Solveo Energie has completed a building for providing optimum cultivation conditions for a ginseng plantation in the Rion-des-Landes municipality. The official inauguration of the plantation took place on September 21, 2012. The solar panel installation would also secure the plantation project financing.
France GINSENG, the ginseng cultivator, now maintains three plantations of the medicinal plant in France which includes the plantation in Rion-des-Landes. Cultivation of ginseng is challenging because the roots of the plant cannot be harvested for four years and the plant cannot survive under direct sunlight.
The construction design developed and implemented by Solveo Energie serves the dual purpose of offering shade to the ginseng plants as well as facilitating the installation of PV modules that generate valuable solar power. The rooftop of the plantation is spread across 9 ha. It accommodates 36,900 solar panels. The total installed capacity is 8.7 MW. Of this, Hanwha has supplied 7.7 MW. The envisaged power output from the solar installation is 10,000,000 kWh per year. The generated output can fulfill the average electrical energy requirements of 4,000 residences. The striking aspect of the project is that such a vast structure was constructed in a very short span of six months. Hanwha Solar has also provided Solveo Energie with flexible financing through its finance tool kit that it offers for selective projects.
