The 22nd World Energy Congress is to be held in Daegu, South Korea from 13 to 17, October 2013. The World Energy Council (WEC) and the WEC Daegu 2013 Organising Committee have released a list of additional speakers for the event.
The congress, which is held with the support of the WEC, is conducted once in every three years. Governments, non-profit groups, associations, professional institutions and the industry are part of the WEC, where over 3,000 member organisations are represented by 93 national committees.
The theme - “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today” will be addressed by the newly confirmed speakers, including, the Director of Global Insight and Innovation at ARUP, Chris Luebkeman; the President & CEO of CAF, Enrique García Rodríguez; the Director of African Development Bank, Hela Cheikhrouhou; Ecopetrol’s President, Javier Genaro Gutiérrez Pemberty; the Executive VP of GdF Suez, Jean-Marie Dauger; the President & CEO of Schneider Electric, Jean-Pascal Tricoire; Oliver Wyman’s CEO, John Drzik; the Director-General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Julia Marton-Lefevre; the Chief Commercial Officer of RWE, Leonhard Birnbaum; the Chief Executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Michael Liebreich; TEPCO’s President, Naomi Hirose; the President & CEO of TransCanada, Russell Girling; the Founder & CEO of Better Place, Shai Agassi; National Grid Chief Executive Steve Holliday; and CEO of Masdar, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.
The speakers are eminent personalities in the global energy sector. WEC Daegu 2013 will release the names of more speakers later. The important global energy themes that are covered include “Visions and scenarios for the future of the global energy sector”; “The energy trilemma: policy solutions to ensure prosperity”; “Identifying opportunities in resources and technologies”; “Securing a sustainable energy future”; and “Asia’s role in tackling global energy challenges.”
