Green technology company, HDS International, has been awarded a patent for a method to capture and reutilize carbon from waste gases.
The patent no. 8,197,857 was granted by the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). Many major industrial processes need to purify their process gas streams. Purification involves removal of CO2 and other acid gases, which is required for producing ammonia, purifying natural gas, manufacturing synthetic gas from coal, refinery hydrotreating and other such applications. Conventional processes involve utilizing a solvent based scrubbing solution for removing the acid gases from the process streams in bulk.
The patented method maintains the advantages of previous methods and also overcomes the disadvantages found in those methods. Further improvements are suggested for removal of CO2 from waste gases.
The invention has the capability to transfer CO2 in high concentrations for algae growth. It offers a method for the function of an open-pond system by utilizing CO2 from waste gases. The HDS invention includes a photobioreactor system that can be used for higher production of algae.
The Chief Scientific Officer of HDS International, Alexander Chirkov, who invented the patent, stated that new patent strengthened the intellectual patent portfolio of the company.
