MEMC Electronic Materials’ subsidiary, SunEdison has declared that it has sold its impending Spectrum Solar Project, a 30 MW (AC) / 37.5 MW (DC) solar photovoltaic power plant, to two companies that include Turner Renewable Energy and the Southern Company.
Anticipated to begin in October, the project construction will be erected on a 311 ac site in Clark County, Nevada. The commercial operation is expected during the Q2 of 2013. SunEdison will construct the plant, and will also take charge of the ongoing operations and maintenance.
A 20 MW (AC) Apex project was sold to Turner Renewable Energy and Southern Company in June after which this Spectrum project has been sold. The Clark County Nevada-based Apex project has entered full commercial operation in the Q3 of 2012.
The Spectrum plant’s electricity will be used for a 25-year power purchase agreement with Nevada Power Company (dba NV Energy). The Las Vegas-based NV- Energy extends an extensive series of energy services and products to nearly 2.4 M Nevada residents and also serves 40 M tourists each year.
According to the President of SunEdison, Carlos Domenech, the Spectrum project in addition to intensifying the relationship with Southern Company, also expands and promotes its position and presence in the Nevada market. Complementing the company’s competence and track record, the project’s success owes to the support extended by U.S. Senator Harry Reid, NV Energy, as well as state and local officials.
