Brian Wynne, President of the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA), today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union Address:
“Last night President Obama reinforced the imperative of achieving energy security by ending our nation’s crippling dependence on petroleum and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that have dire consequences for our environment.
“We applaud the President’s plan to ‘free our families and business from painful spikes in gas prices’ and to loosen the chains of a global oil market on our national security and economy. Accelerating electric drive technologies that displace petroleum with domestically generated, abundant electricity and growing the infrastructure that support these vehicles are key to achieving this national imperative.
“Electric drive cars and trucks reduce air and other pollutants and reduce fuel costs. Powering a vehicle with electricity can be done at a fraction of the cost of gasoline. And while we are establishing a new energy security, we will also be growing our global competitiveness with development and manufacturing of advanced vehicle technologies.
“EDTA stands ready to work with the President and Congress to achieve our national energy security goals and to build a clean and sustainable transportation fleet.”
