Eltek to Showcase Range of Solar Solutions at AfricaCom

Eltek, the world leader in high efficiency power systems for telecommunications, industrial applications and renewable energy projects has established leadership in telecom solar power within Africa, with more than 430 successfully deployed solar projects in 17 countries.

These solar installations help to expand and improve mobile and fixed telecom services by allowing telecom providers to build towers in remote areas and by allowing carriers to use solar as a back up technology for more reliability.

The company has worked with Africa’s leading telecom providers to provide solar power at wireless towers and other telecom sites across the continent. These include more than 160 sites in Mali and 107 sites in Egypt. Other countries with installations include: Angola, Chad, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Somalia, Somaliland, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

“Wireless telecom is igniting a lot of promising change throughout Africa and our work with carriers and network equipment manufacturers is helping to make those services more stable and most cost effective without generating pollution,” said Bob Hurley VP MEA at Eltek MEA DMCC. “Our success in Africa is due to the optimal feature-set on our Flatpack2 solar systems, which provide the highest power efficiency in the industry.”

Eltek Solar Products at AfricaCom

The company will display its range of solar solutions at AfricaCom, which runs from 12 – 14 Nov. in Cape Town, South Africa. Eltek will be in stand P79.

On display at the show will be two of Eltek’s leading telecom solar products, the Flatpack2 48/12kW Solar Autonomous system and the Flatpack2 48V Hybrid system. Both are designed for radio base stations (LTE, 4G, 3G, 2G), mobile switching centers or for microwave or broadband remote sites.

The Flatpack2 Solar Autonomous delivers high-efficiency solar power at sites where there is no generator or mains back-up power. The system can accommodate up to eight Eltek 1.5kW solar converters to provide 12kW of DC power. It features maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology for optimal energy generation. This system is designed for 48V and 24V applications, and supports extensive battery back up.

For remote sites with solar and a generator or mains connection, the Flatpack2 Hybrid provides optimized management of each power source. The system supports both Flatpack2 HE 2kW rectifier modules and Flatpack2 HE 1.5 kW solar converters for up to 12kW of power. The system offers MPPT and supports the Eltek Smartpack2 controller that allows remote management of the system in addition to intelligently selecting between the solar, back up and mains power systems. The systems are compact, cost efficient and designed to be mounted into racks, cabinets or enclosures.

Also at the booth, Eltek will demonstrate its Eltek Cooling Box (ECB) a radical new outdoor cabinet design that reduces cooling costs. The ECB is designed so that large amounts of ambient air can be filtered and exchanged for high cooling performance at a low cost.
