Olson Homes Offers Energy-Efficient Solar Features as Standard in Oakgrove Walk Project

Olson Homes recently opened Oakgrove Walk in La Verne, CA, offering all new homes that exceed Title 24 standards by 15 percent. Along with a number of other green attributes, Oakgrove Walk offers solar as a standard feature on all of its homes.

Nestled in the foothills of San Gabriel Valley, Oakgrove Walk is a new community consisting of 66 two-story single-family homes ranging from 1,570 square feet to 1,872 square feet. In addition to outstanding community amenities, Oakgrove Walk will also offer energy-efficient solar features that come standard with every home, including solar by PetersenDean, a leader in solar roofing since 1984. By harnessing the power of the sun, these eco-friendly panels allow residents to preserve the environment while significantly reducing their electric bill, resulting in decreased spending and increased savings. These homes also feature inset, solar electric installations and Eagle Tile brand S-curve and flat tile roofing material.

Other green features include Energy Star appliances, low-VOC interior paint and space-saving tankless water heaters. These features, among many others, contribute to the overall environmentally-driven design of the community. The homes are designed to be LEED Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

PetersenDean provided full, turnkey roofing and solar installation. Each home features a 1.5 kW solar system, fully integrated and is pre-engineered to accommodate an upgraded system of 2 kW. The estimated annual energy savings for a home with a 2kW system is about $965 a year or $80 a month. Tax credits totaling about $1,300 are also available for most homeowners with solar roofing.

“We are delighted to partner with Olson Homes on this project," said Jim Petersen, founder of PetersenDean. “We need to have a better energy policy and a cleaner and healthier way of living so being able to power your house using renewable resources like the sun is one way. Imagine cutting your energy bill in half, while taking advantage of renewable energy sources like the sun. That’s what these programs are all about.”

A community planned around its natural habitat, Oakgrove Walk will afford residents exclusive access to the land’s native mature oak trees, many of which are more than 100 years old.

“Oakgrove Walk is a very unique community with a great natural foundation, and we wanted to preserve that,” stated Steve Olson, Chairman of The Olson Company. “We’ve made special efforts to build around and preserve more than 30 mature oak trees on the property as well as integrate walking paths throughout. It’s our hope that each tree not only tells a story but also brings residents together and adds distinct character to this special community.”
