Redavia Rental Solar Power Honored with 2014 Tanzanian Frost & Sullivan Award

Based on its recent analysis of the solar/diesel hybrid power in the mining industry, Frost & Sullivan recognises Redavia Rental Solar Power with the 2014 Tanzanian Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation Leadership. Redavia has carved out new market opportunities in Tanzania by making technical improvements to its solar and diesel hybrid power plants in order to provide clean and economical energy solutions.

The company is further recognised for its ability to pre-construct a series of effortlessly re-deployable solar power plants for hybrid operation, with on-site diesel gensets. These power plants are built independently of an off-taker (customer) and a specific location, however, the company is clear on the conditions under which they can be safely deployed. As these game-changing power plants are easy to install, dismantle and transport, they are compatible with remote mining operations.

"Redavia designs solar power plants that are easily integrated with the on-site diesel gensets," said Frost & Sullivan Research Associate Xolani Mncedane. "Strategically, the power plants are built in container-based modular units of 87 kilowatts (kWh), which is improving with advances in design and technology, so they can be easily scaled up to installations of several megawatts (MW)."

In November 2013, the company successfully commissioned a 63 kW solar/diesel hybrid power plant for a gold mine in Tanzania and as a result, is currently exploring a 755 MW pipeline, which demonstrates the effectiveness of pre-constructing solar power plants independently of the off-taker.

Redavia's unmatched technical expertise has enabled the company to standardise its operational processes, and subsequently develop solar power plants on a set of specifications – encompassing solar conditions, wind conditions, and latitude in which the solar farm will be installed. This novel approach has allowed Redavia's technology to be employed in different applications. Currently, the company is focusing on expansion in the food processing industry; eventually, it is expected to extend its solutions to the diesel pump-dependent agriculture industry.

"Although Redavia initially focused only on rural communities, it quickly identified and seized the opportunities presented by remote mining companies that are powered exclusively by diesel gensets," said Mncedane. "By implementing a challenge-driven business model that assists it in delivering tailored clean energy solutions with flexible finance options, it has shown resourcefulness in leveraging the renewable energy Mega Trend."

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies, which impacts both the functionality and the customer value of the new products and applications. The award lauds the high R&D spend towards innovation, its relevance to the industry and the positive impact on brand perception.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
