Two Washington Gas Light Employees Receive Green Champions Award

Two employees of Washington Gas Light Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of WGL Holdings, Inc., received the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Green Champions Award today. John Bassler and Damon Downing were recognized for their contributions to a successful energy conservation project as part of a team consisting of Washington Gas, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Reusable Energy Laboratories (NREL) staff.

The team was commissioned as part of an ongoing $14 million utility energy services project that will ultimately allow the FDA to consistently meet their energy savings goals. HHS selected the team for this group award as part of their fiscal year 2007 annual energy and water management recognition awards. Washington Gas is currently 10 months into the implementation phase of the project. To date, the effort has resulted in nearly $1.4 million in savings for the HHS and FDA.

“Being recognized for the Green Champions Award is a testament to our commitment to preserve and improve our environment,” said Gautam Chandra, vice president, Washington Gas. “Successfully developing a cost-effective energy conservation measure for the FDA reinforces Washington Gas’s reputation as a responsible steward of energy resources in our community.”
