On Aug 24, 2016, American Electric Technologies, Inc., the premium global provider of power delivery solutions for energy industries, announced the delivery and commission of a new biomass power generation control system project in Kauai, Hawaii, by its M&I Electric business.
M&I Electric provided the highly customized power generation control system for the biomass energy generation project for the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, an electric cooperative that has set up a combination of renewable energy strategy using biomass, solar and hydroelectricity in order to meet the demand for power supplies as well as enhance the grid stability.
Located just outside Lihue, the $90-million, 7-megawatt biomass plant is one of the pioneer plants of its type in this country and it generates 12% of Kauai’s power by burning wood chips from locally grown trees and from invasive species.
We are pleased to be able to support this important renewable energy project for Kauai with our biomass power generation control systems. This project exemplifies our mission of Empowering Energy™ and shows progress in our growth strategy of working with traditional and renewable power generation projects around the world.
