BP58xx Series Developed Using Energy-Saving Technologies

ROHM Electronics introduces the industry's first AC/DC-isolated LED driver modules utilizing constant-current circuits optimized for driving LEDs. The new BP58xx series integrates all required LED-driving control circuits, switching elements, isolation transformers and constant-current circuits into a single SIP package. The result is an all-in-one solution that increases power-conversion efficiency in a broad range of illumination/lighting applications, including theater, landscape, residential, commercial and emergency lighting. The two new AC/DC isolated driver modules' constant-current output and adjustable brightness control offer designers a highly accurate, high-performance device for simplifying designs while saving valuable board space.

Key features of the BP58xx series include:

  • Constant-current output optimized for driving LEDs (current set via external resistor)
  • Minimal ambient temperature-based, constant current fluctuation (±1 percent accuracy)
  • Industry’s highest power-conversion efficiency of 85 percent (2 to 8 percent improvement over conventional discrete solution)
  • Isolated AC/DC Circuit
  • Compact SIP11 package with built-in switching transformer (32.9 mm x 25.0 mm x 15.1 mm max.)

The BP58xx series was developed using energy-saving technologies culled from AC/DC converter designs. Unlike discrete solutions, these modules integrate all the necessary functionality for driving LEDs, making it possible to configure power supply circuits using fewer external components, thus reducing parts count and unnecessary cost. These ROHS-compliant modules offer pin-compatibility with a wide range of products to enable easy modification based on each specification as well as adjustable constant-current isolation of 150-1000 mA to enhance design flexibility.

“ROHM’s new BP58xx series LED driver modules mark an industry milestone for simplifying AC to DC output in high-power LED designs compared with previously available solutions,” said Avi Elmaleh, Field Application Engineer for ROHM Electronics. “Now designers have an easy-to-use and cost-effective alternative to discrete solutions when implementing their lighting and illumination applications.”
