Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro Limited today announced its membership in The Green Grid, a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. Wipro's green IT initiatives extend from energy efficient data centers to eco-friendly product engineering designs and PC ranges.
These data centers provide Wipro’s customers end-to-end services for better utilization of their capacity, thereby helping enterprises to minimize their use of power, cooling and housing equipment, which cause greenhouse gases. The data centers apply practices such as server virtualization to minimize the amount of equipment required for operations.
Wipro will broaden its green IT initiatives through its participation in The Green Grid, as the consortium seeks to provide industry-wide recommendations on best practices, metrics and technologies that will improve overall data center and business computing energy efficiencies.
“Our membership to The Green Grid highlights the work we have done to achieve energy efficiency in our data centers, which translates to helping our customers go green and achieve business benefits,” said Jessie Paul, Chief Marketing Officer, Wipro Technologies. Being a part of The Green Grid, Wipro will contribute as an active participant, creating and offering energy-efficient, virtual data center technology.
Wipro also previously acquired Infocrossing, a U.S. based data center computing firm that has helped it to further the cause of ecological sustainability. Additionally, Wipro went Carbon Neutral at Mandala, its annual customer forum event, and plans on extending this initiative to more customer events in the future. Wipro’s other recent accomplishments include receiving U.S. Green Building Council Certification for two of the company’s existing facilities.
