As a leader in energy conservation, TXU Energy today launched the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge, a unique reality contest open to both current and new TXU Energy residential customers in Texas. The contest is designed to encourage Texans to discover and share new ways to manage energy consumption and costs, empower them to save electricity and money, and reap additional rewards from the contest.
“The Power Saver Challenge is a fun and interactive way to help our customers and their families integrate green living habits into their everyday lives, share that knowledge with others, and save money by using less electricity,” said Jim Burke, CEO of TXU Energy. “TXU Energy is committed to energy conservation and improving environmental quality. Educating our customers on how they can also make a difference is just one way of achieving that commitment.”
Current and new Texas residential customers can enter the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge now through July 25 at www.txu.com/powersaver, simply by answering a short questionnaire and submitting a brief essay. While entering the contest, visitors on the site can also find energy-saving tips and tools.
In North Texas, existing and new customers can also sign up at the Dallas City Arts Celebration, June 13 to 15 in downtown Dallas. Visitors of the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge booth at Dallas City Arts Celebration will also have an opportunity to video record their energy-saving ideas.
From all initial entries, 15 semi-finalists will be selected to submit either a video essay or a written essay combined with photos on home energy conservation themes. Three finalists will be selected from among the semi-finalists – representing different geographic regions of Texas – and will each win an HD video camera, a $5,000 cash fund to use for home energy improvements, and a free in-home energy audit with energy-saving recommendations. Semi-finalists who do not move on to the finals will win $100 in credits towards their TXU Energy bills.
The three final contestants’ home audits and energy improvements will be videotaped for web voting to help select the grand prize winner. In addition to web voting, contestants will also be judged by an energy expert panel evaluating each contestant’s Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating improvements, ingenuity, and energy-savings behavior. The grand prize winner will receive $30,000.
