Point Carbon, a world-leading provider of independent analysis and consulting services for governments and companies in the global power, gas and carbon markets, today announced the opening of a Boston office to be headed by Dr. Jurgen Weiss, Managing Director of Advisory Services North America.
Dr. Mark Sarro will manage the new Boston office with Dr. Weiss. Dr. Sarro, 38, joined Point Carbon in May 2008 as a Director for Advisory Services. He brings with him more than ten years of experience in economic consulting with energy and electricity markets, as well as significant management and public policy experience. His consulting work has focused on areas such as electricity price forecasting, power market asset and contract valuation, and cost of capital estimation for regulated utilities and merchant companies. Dr. Sarro also holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston College.
Seeing a large amount of clean technology activity in the state from private equity, as well as support by the Massachusetts state government, Point Carbon recognized Boston as a promising place to serve as the base for its extensive consulting and advisory business. Additionally, the state is one of the driving forces behind the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and this office gives Point Carbon a physical presence in the area.
“In many ways, Massachusetts has affirmed its commitment to innovation in clean technology based on the state’s strength in venture capital and research,” says Dr. Weiss. “Furthermore, private industry is already onboard raising significant capital to invest in green technology and renewable energy projects,” continued Dr. Weiss.
Boston is also home to world-class academics and researchers and a large talent pool of graduate and undergraduate students eager to get involved in environmental, economic, and strategic issues involving climate change. A Boston office will help Point Carbon expand its network of top experts in the field and continue to attract top research and analytical talent.
“With Boston emerging as a national leader in carbon emissions trading and green technology, Point Carbon is eager to bring its leading market expertise and client services to the region,” says Dr. Weiss.
Point Carbon’s office will be located in downtown Boston. This is Point Carbon’s second location in the U.S. Its North American headquarters are located in Washington, D.C.
