United Way of the Southern Tier recently announced a collaboration with Common Energy to provide lower cost clean energy to communities in the Southern Tier.
This novel partnership will enable New York State residents to sign up for a 10% discount on their electricity rate for up to 20 years, and lower the community’s emissions at no cost. Average savings is $10-$20 per month, and each participant helps stop approximately 5,000 pounds of carbon emissions annually. Enrolment for homeowners and renters is free with their utility account at: www.commonenergy.us/unitedway
When residents sign up, they become subscribers to a local clean energy project. Electricity from the project put out of place fossil fuel-based generation, instantly lowering emissions in the community. Common Energy offers this electricity at a contracted discount to the public, thereby lowering the energy bill. Common Energy will also offer a $25 donation to the United Way of the Southern Tier for each person who signs up.
We are excited to help bring lower cost clean energy to our community. This partnership furthers the United Way’s mission of improving lives and advancing the common good.
Stephen M. Hughes, President and CEO, United Way of the Southern Tier.
We are excited to partner with United Way on this important and high-impact program. Through this partnership, members of the public can prevent millions of pounds of emissions in their community and save on their electricity in a matter of minutes.
