Reliant Energy is the presenting sponsor of the inaugural YMCA of Greater Houston's YMCA Cool Days, June 1-Aug. 31, and will organize a number of activities with the YMCA that will help create awareness among youth and their parents about energy efficiency in cool, fun-filled settings.
In mid-June, July and August, Reliant Energy will host a themed event at select YMCAs for members and their families, which include:
Saturday, June 14

Saturday, July 26

During each themed event, YMCA youth and their parents will be able to enjoy snacks and play interactive energy efficiency games through the Reliant Energy “Teach Me Energy” Web site and win prizes, such as Houston Astros tickets, autographed Houston Texans sports items or Reliant Energy Energy Savings Kits. The events also will include Texans cheerleader appearances.
Parents will have a chance to speak with Reliant Energy Advisors about ways they can reduce their electricity consumption through energy efficiency and take the Reliant Energy Power Pact pledge to receive a free compact fluorescent light.
“Reliant Energy cares about the communities in which we serve, and we are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the YMCA ‘Cool Days’ program,” said Tracy Carmen-Jones, vice president, Reliant Energy Community Marketing. “Beyond having the YMCA of Greater Houston as a valued community partner, we believe the ‘Cool Days’ program helps extend Reliant Energy’s commitment to helping all Texans understand ways in which they can reduce electricity consumption and lower their electricity bills.”
“With the high gasoline prices we are all facing, we know that many, many families in our communities are looking for fun things to do right here at home,” said Mike Hagan, YMCA Vice President of Marketing. “While the YMCA offers great experiences like camping and swimming for the kids and family nights for the entire family, collaborating with fun community venues like the zoo and the museums offer our members a wide variety of things to do all summer.”
In addition to the three themed events, Reliant Energy will make energy efficiency presentations at nine YMCA locations at selected times and provide energy efficiency information for pickup at the 41 YMCA of Greater Houston locations. Families can win a four-pack of tickets to see the Houston Astros vs. the Texas Rangers on June 26 by visiting www.reliantpowerzone.com.
