Plymouth Rock Studios to Make Entire Movie Studio Clean and Green Leader in Environmental Design

Plymouth Rock Studios -- the face and future of Massachusetts' emerging movie industry -- will also be an industry leader in sustainable, green design.

The studio announced today that it has registered its entire development project with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in order to pursue campus wide, new construction certification under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED(R)) standards. When completed, this will be the world's first completely "green" studio complex. The LEED process provides independent, third-party verification that a project meets the highest green building standards.

"By pursing LEED certification, we will create a holistic, state-of-the- art facility in Plymouth, and ensure that Massachusetts is a pioneer in sustainable, green practices," said David Kirkpatrick, co-founder of Plymouth Rock Studios.

To bring this innovative studio to fruition, Plymouth Rock Studios has selected Gensler -- a leading global architecture, design, planning and strategic consulting firm renowned for its commitment to green design.

"Gensler is thrilled to be part of this transformational project in the leadership of sustainable design practices in the entertainment industry," said Douglas C. Gensler, AIA, NCARB, managing director of Gensler Boston.

Plymouth Rock Studios, to be built on 240 acres in Plymouth, will feature 14 sound stages, a multi-purpose theater, hotel, office buildings and educational components. Through the design leadership of Gensler, the development will include many state of the art sustainable practices and materials such as low impact design strategies, high performance building design, renewable energy systems, alternate transportation, geo-thermal systems, day lighting capture and water reuse systems.
