This marks a significant step forward for the UK’s hydrogen sector, unlocking investment, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.

The focus on hard-to-abate industries such as glass manufacturing, brick making, clean power generation and sustainable aviation fuel production, closely reflects the findings of the HEA’s Building Demand Action Plan - a key piece of work launching on April 23.

This plan identifies the sectors where hydrogen is truly needed, particularly in industries that are hard to fully electrify and require alternative solutions to decarbonize. The HAR2 announcement reinforces this approach, showing strong alignment between industry and government priorities.

We congratulate all those included in the HAR2 funding round, especially our members Green Cat Hydrogen and Statkraft Hydrogen UK Holding – it is a fantastic recognition of their work in advancing hydrogen solutions.

Driving Forward UK Hydrogen

Dr Emma Guthrie, CEO of the Hydrogen Energy Association, said: "Congratulations to all the project teams selected for HAR2, we look forward to working with them to drive forward the UK’s hydrogen future.

“This announcement has brought vital clarity to the UK’s hydrogen sector, providing a crucial boost for projects that will drive forward the country’s low-carbon transition.

“The funding support offered through HAR2 gives our members and the wider industry the confidence to gear up for delivery, unlocking investment and creating jobs.”

The team at Green Cat Hydrogen, which was named in today’s shortlist, said: “We welcome the Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) shortlisting, which brings fresh momentum to the UK hydrogen industry.

“We're proud to have three projects included on the shortlist and look forward to collaborating with DESNZ through the next stages of the process. This milestone marks an important step in advancing the development and deployment of our projects.”

Chair of the HEA Amanda Lyne, who is also Managing Director of ULEMCo, said: “We’re looking forward to working with any of the successful projects to help them understand and create demand in transport, as well as giving opportunity for added value in their business case developments.”

The team from HEA member Equans said: “We strongly welcome today’s announcement of the shortlisted projects in HAR2. This milestone will not only drive progress towards net zero but also boost economic growth, retaining and creating high-skilled jobs, and strengthening the UK’s position as a global leader in hydrogen.

“We are also pleased to see the Government emphasise the importance of FEED and early EPC contractor involvement to improve cost competitiveness as this will increase likelihood of successful Final Investment Decisions.”

Meanwhile Lazare Kassi, Managing Director at HEA member Panam Valves Ltd, said: "The HAR2 shortlist marks a pivotal moment in the UK’s hydrogen journey. As a trusted manufacturer and supplier of high-pressure valves and fittings for hydrogen infrastructure, Panam Valves is proud to support the sector’s evolving needs. We commend DESNZ for championing innovation and driving investment in clean energy. Congratulations to all the shortlisted projects - we look forward to shaping a more sustainable future, together."
