Now available in the United States, Monocoat Oil is a plant-based wood finish that contains no volatile organic compounds, is engineered to apply in one coat, and produces an extremely durable, lasting finish. It is supplied in a clear finish and in 34 colors.
Monocoat adheres with the first microns of the wood and hardens to a permanent finish that requires minimal maintenance. Because Monocoat colors molecularly bond with wood to a specific density, they apply evenly, without overlap or variation. Both clear and color finishes are true one-coat applications. Monocoat finishes provide a hand-rubbed appearance that requires minimal maintenance.
Used worldwide for years, Monocoat is manufactured in Belgium, and is now distributed in North America by Special Hardwood Products, Inc., of Atlanta.
The all-natural ingredients of Monocoat wood finishes include flax and carnauba. Monocoat natural oil finishes contain no VOCs and have no effect on indoor air quality. During application, and for the life of the floor, there is no off-gassing and no odor.
Product Manager Dan Elledge says: "Monocoat is available in clear and 34 colors, ranging from dramatic Chocolate and Cotton White to contemporary European shades like Gris Belge. Because the colors are integrated into the finish, Monocoat remains a true single application finish: previous staining and subsequent finishing are eliminated."
Elledge adds: "Maintenance is simple, and Monocoat all-natural maintenance products easily keep the floors clean and protected, unlike other popular finishes that require re-sanding and refinishing."
Monocoat natural oil finishes are also highly versatile: they are used on stairs, doors, counters, shelving and furniture. Monocoat also offers a special formulation for outside use on wood decking and siding. All Monocoat products, which offer great savings of time and money to professional installers, are also becoming increasingly popular with do-it-yourself consumers because of their simplicity of use. Stain and abrasion tests by SHR Timber Research show Monocoat is superior to other oil finishes for residential and commercial applications.
