New International Clean Energy Technology Fund to Combat Climate Change

In recognition of the growing importance of clean technology, President Bush will announce tonight a commitment of $2 billion over the next three years to create a new international clean energy technology fund to help confront climate change worldwide.

CTSI has been working hard behind the scenes the past few weeks to supply the President's team with information regarding the importance of clean technology, companies developing and deploying these technologies, and the overall impact of this sector on all Americans, including:

  • Job Growth - providing high-quality green-collar jobs in construction, manufacturing, and the skilled trades
  • Independence - reducing our reliance on imported oil
  • Security - creating a vibrant US economy and environmentally sustainable future for our children
  • Competitiveness - enabling US technology leadership and innovation in clean technologies

In addition to the clean energy technology fund, President Bush will be calling on Congress to work with him on the following agenda items:

  • Lead the development of clean and efficient technologies critical to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while fostering economic growth.
  • Fund new technologies that can produce power from coal with significantly lower carbon emission.
  • Increase the use of nuclear power as a clean, safe, and affordable alternative energy source to meet America's growing needs for electricity.
  • Support US and EU joint proposal to WTO to eliminate tariff and non-tariff barriers to clean energy and environmental technologies and services.
