Aura Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: AUSI) announced today that Azure Dynamics Corporation (TSX: AZD) incorporated the AuraGen generator into its Balance™ Hybrid Electric vehicle, which is the newest addition to the United States Postal Service fleet (USPS). USPS operates the largest civilian vehicle fleet in the world with over 220,000 vehicles traveling more than 1.2 billion miles a year.
The Balance™ Hybrid Electric vehicle is a two-ton step van, and will actively participate in the USPS fleet in Long Island, New York for a twelve month pilot program. The vehicle utilizes Azure Dynamics' hybrid electric drive train on the Ford E-450 chassis and the AuraGen generator.
The USPS organization has demonstrated its strong commitment to a healthier environment and cost savings by publicly stating its goal of decreasing petroleum usage by 20% over the next five years. The Azure Balance™ Hybrid Electric product integrates the AuraGen starter generator into its system and can be instrumental in helping USPS achieve these goals.
Mr. Gagerman, Aura’s CEO, said, “We are pleased to be part of the environmentally friendly and economic solution offered by Azure Dynamics through their hybrid electrical vehicles. The AuraGen induction machine is well positioned to be an ideal solution for both Parallel and Series hybrid vehicles design. Due to its high energy density, our AuraGen solution provides significant weight savings that result in better fuel economy and increased range. In addition, our compact size makes it easy to integrate our system into existing designs. Being a pure induction solution of course provides significant economic advantages over a permanent magnet solution.”
In addition to hybrid applications, Aura is using its AuraGen and advanced power management system to support alternative environmentally friendly energy solutions such as WePower Inc.'s vertical wind turbines.
