Suntech Power Holdings, the leading manufacturer of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, has announced that it will develop at least 20 percent of the solar projects, which have obtained approval from the China’s Solar Rooftop Program.
Suntech is involved in designing, developing, manufacturing, and marketing fine quality, inexpensive, eco-friendly and high output solar products. China’s Solar Rooftop Program was established by the Ministry of Finance in March 2009. Its main aim is to increase the energy ratio of buildings by installing PV solar systems, which are integrated with or attached to buildings.
China’s Solar Rooftop Program has approved funds for 111 solar projects across China, representing total output of 91MW. The solar projects that are approved under this program qualify their owners to receive discounts of 13-17 RMB for each watt. The Solar Rooftop Program has special focus on advanced solar systems that are integrated into buildings.
Suntech has managed to complete about 4MV of the approved projects and remaining projects will be developed by the middle of 2010. Suntech’s recently developed project at Green Energy Headquarters in Wuxi, which comprises a 1MW BIPV rooftop system and solar façade, has received the discount under the program,. The system was designed and manufactured by the in-house team of Suntech.
Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Chairman and CEO of Suntech, highlighted the importance of reducing carbon emission and gaining increased energy efficiency. He further stated that the Ministry of Finance Solar Building Program has recognized this immense opportunity to offset energy utilization of buildings by integrating solar energy generation systems with them. Dr. Shi further stated that he hopes to see the program expand in 2010 and the subsequent years.
