Calpine has established a number of geothermal power plants as part of its commitment to offering clean electricity. Some of the company’s projects include the Calistoga, West Ford Flat, Socrates, Sonoma, Quicksilver, McCabe, Bear Canyon, Big Geysers, Lake View, Ridge Line and Eagle Rock.
The Calistoga is located in northern California and consists of a geothermal power plant along with its collaborated steam fields. This power plant, established by Calpine, generates electricity that is supplied to and utilized by PG&E. This plant began its operations in April 1984. The base load capacity of the Calistoga power plant is about 66 megawatts, with a base load capacity with peaking also of 66 megawatts. The turbines that are used for the generation of electricity at the Calistoga geothermal power plant are manufactured by international companies such as Toshiba.
The Calistoga geothermal power plant, wholly owned and operated by Calpine, also serves the NERC region of WECC. This power plant is located at The Geysers in Lake County. The process of electricity generation at this plant is advantageous as the air emissions produced here are minimal, keeping the environment clean and safe.
