The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) and Pollution Probe have launched a primer on Automobile Fuel Efficiency and Emissions. Being the first of its kind, this primer focuses on reducing environmental footprint and enables drivers to save fuel by providing them with a list of fuel reduction measures. Technological and driving factors are also imparted to the drivers to educate them on fuel efficiency.
CAA-Quebec is a partner in this launch and its President Paul Pelletier, remarks that its members have understood the importance of adopting appropriate driving choices to carry out proper fuel consumption procedures and also to maintain a greener environment.
Two brochures were created to heighten the significance of this primer. Eco-driving tips on how to save fuel were provided to motorists through the first brochure, ‘What You Can Do to Conserve Fuel and Reduce emissions’. Some of these tips highlighted the significance of installing a block burner on vehicles, since an extra 50% of fuel is used by cars to warm up the engine especially in winter. Preventing excess weight in vehicles and avoiding sudden and rash starts and stops are other helpful tips in saving fuel.
‘Busting Myths About Fuel Efficiency and Driving’ is the second brochure that deals with various myths related to fuel efficiency. Myths such as using the air conditioner on the highway helps to save fuel and compromising safety by using a fuel efficient vehicle are explored in the second brochure.
Besides these two brochures, a new website to help the drivers to test their knowledge on fuel efficiency, and providing them with strategies carried out by the government in saving fuel, is also launched. The primer, the two brochures and videos on the importance of fuel efficiency can be downloaded by those visiting this site.
Bob Oliver, Executive Director of Pollution Probe, remarks that the intention of introducing this primer was to educate the public on the necessity to save fuel and thus enabling the environment to be a cleaner in future.
