Sprint Opens First Eco-Friendly Retail Store in Houston

Sprint announced the opening of its first eco-friendly retail store in Houston, which is located at 1493 Parks at Boulder Creek. This new eco-friendly store in Houston consist of lighting equipment with energy efficient features and it also consists of carpets and paints with a low volatile organic compound (VOC) that helps in bringing down the carbon footprint rate of this new store.

The design elements in the Houston store fall under the LEED design standards that are expected to bring about carbon footprint reductions, which are equal to at least 19,000 of carbon dioxide equivalents. Water consumption is expected to be reduced by 54 percent saving 12,000 gallons of water each year, and consumption of lighting energy is expected to be reduced by 25 percent.

The quality of indoor air is expected to be improved by the usage of low VOC building materials, carpets and paint. The usage of Energy Star-rated appliances and equipment are expected to improve and conserve the usage of energy.

Energy efficient retail stores planned to be developed in the year 2010 will be located in Seattle, Kansas City, Albuquerque and another one in Houston. The 1,100 retail locations owned by Sprint consists of a green display area that projects the availability of eco-friendly accessories and products that include SOLIO Solar Charger and carrying cases made from recycled materials and Samsung Reclaim.

Sprint has also developed a new green design criterion for its accessories and devices that will be produced in the future and has also made an announcement of the fresh measures it has taken to fulfill its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent in the year 2017. Sprint has taken part in various environmental related programs and projects that include the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Climate Leaders Program. In the year 2008 Sprint managed to bring down about 6.8 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
