Oerlikon Solar has selected Intergraph SmartPlant 3D and P&ID engineering software to increase the production of thin film silicon solar modules in a cost-effective manner. The P&ID engineering software and the Intergraph SmartPlant 3D has been selected in order to speed up the completion of the plant and to bring about an increase in the productivity rate. Oerlikon Solar will utilize these two softwares to produce a large quantity of thin film silicon solar modules.
Globally, both process and power projects utilize the SmartPlant 3D engineering design software, which is considered as a supreme quality, with multi productive 3D modeling environment. In comparison with the production output of other systems, the SmartPlant 3D engineering design software brings about an initial increase of 25 to 35 percent in the production process besides executing shorter schedules and deliverables of an improved quality.
Orlando Derungs, Project manager, Fab Engineering & Planning for Oerlikon Solar, remarked that the company after experiencing a number of limitations from their previous design system expects to see improvements in the design and quality of their products through the usage of SmartPlant 3D and P&ID. Derungs further stated that the company will be working with Intergraph in order to improve the company’s Basic and Detail Engineering and this will enable the company to achieve a productive design and a much more organized environment. According to Gerhard Sallinger, President, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine, stated that the company’s power industry customer base will see a new dimension with the emergence of Oerlikon Solar as a SmartPlant 3D customer.
