Jujuy Province Receives Wind Turbines from Helix Wind and EDAL RE

A global renewable energy company, Helix Wind Corp. announced on 3 December, 2009 that the company in union with its distributor EDAL RE, Buenos Aires will provide about 90 to 100 wind turbines for the rural electrification and off-grid generation project in Jujuy, Argentina.

This $9.5 million project which is scheduled to start in February 2010 will be financed by the World Bank. This project is a part of the Renewable Energy in the Rural Market Project developed by World Bank in order to provide rural Argentinean communities with clean energy.

EDAL RE will undertake the task of installing power islands with 15kW along with photovoltaic arrays and S594 vertical axis turbines from Helix Wind. These wind turbines are installed to replace 2.3MW of fossil thermal generation. Turbines used in this project have been successfully tested under the standard testing procedures.

Javier Wolcoff, Director of EDAL RE, remarked that the  wind turbines used in this project stand out as appropriate supplements as the winds in the high deserts occur only after sun set. Wolcoff further stated that the turbines provided by Helix Wind are strong enough to withstand the northwest Argentinean winds that are coarse. These turbines according to Wolcoff require less maintenance and can be easily installed in remote areas.

Ian Gardner, CEO of Helix Wind, stated that EDAL RE possesses the right to market the turbines from Helix Wind in most parts of Netherlands Antilles and South America. Gardner further remarked that the company is pleased to work with EDAL RE in order to provide suitable renewable energy solutions to the Jujuy Province.

Lic. Fernando Frias, Minister of Planning, Development and Infrastructure of Jujuy, remarked that the province is indeed proud to welcome technologies with more advanced features especially to its remote places. This according to Frias will encourage people in these remote places to inculcate better measures that will provide the population with clean energy.
