Covanta Holding Corporation Commences Construction of its Energy-from-Waste Facility in Dublin

Covanta Holding Corporation announced that the company has started the construction of a new Energy-from-Waste facility in Dublin, Ireland. Covanta Holding Corporation has established itself to be a globally recognized owner and operator of a wide range of Energy-from-Waste and renewable energy projects.

This new project is built as a Public Private Partnership between Dublin City Council and Dublin Waste to Energy Limited. The designing and construction of this process will be undertaken by Covanta through its subsidiaries. This project is intended to process about 600,000 tonnes of waste each year and is expected to be completed after a period of three years. An approximate amount of Euro 350 million is the estimated cost for this entire project.

The project will be operated and maintained by Covanta for Dublin Waste to Energy Limited. Tfhe company has agreed to provide disposal services by making arrangements with four Dublin local authorities through the Dublin City Council. These disposal services are provided every year for a minimum of 320,000 tonnes of waste, which is half the capacity of the facility. The remaining capacity of the facility will be utilized for contracts from the market place. The facility will generate renewable electricity once the construction is complete.

Anthony Orlando, CEO and President of Covanta, remarked that the new project will play a key role in providing an eco-friendly and economically sustainable waste management program. Clean and renewable energy will also be provided by the new facility which in turn will provide long-term benefits for the shareholders and residents of Dublin.
