Beautiful Earth Group announced that it has built a solar-powered electric vehicle charging station in New York. This solar-powered electric vehicle charging station is first in New York City and one of the very few in the world. Beautiful Earth Group is a sustainable energy company based in New York. The company has designed the station and built it.
The electric vehicle charging station is built on an industrial land that is located near the headquarters of the company in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The station is not connected to the grid and is completely powered by advanced Sharp 235 watt photovoltaic panels. The project demonstrates the company’s commitment in providing renewable energy solutions for urban areas.
BMW Group's MINI E, a fully electric car, is one of few cars in the world to run fully on solar power. The solar-powered electric vehicle charging station is at present is used to charge MINI E electric cars. The electric car takes approximately three hours to charge and its range is about 100 miles.
Lex Heslin, BE President and CEO, said that it was amazing that the car without using gasoline is capable running up to 95 miles per hour with solar power alone. Head of EV Operations and Strategy for BMW, Richard Steinberg, said that the company was delighted that MINI E is part of BE’s initiative in providing sustainable motoring.
The solar-powered electric vehicle charging station has a capacity of six kilowatts and is also capable of providing enough power for a small home. The battery bank in the facility stores energy 24/7 to provide service any time of the day or night.
