Suntech Power’s PV Module Testing Facility Awarded VDE Test Data Acceptance Program Certificate

Suntech Power Holdings is the first solar company in Asia to be awarded the VDE Test Data Acceptance Program certificate based on the requirements of IEC 61215. Suntech Power Holdings is a leading crystalline silicon photovoltaic module manufacturer in the world and this award highlights the company’s commitment to following high-quality manufacturing processes that ensures high solar panel performance.

Dr. Qiang Han, General Manager of VDE Shanghai, remarked that the company is pleased with the quality testing processes developed by Suntech and many of these testing processes exceed IEC certification requirements.

VDE Shanghai will send its experienced personnel on a regular basis to observe the quality testing processes and procedures at Suntech. By participating in the TDAP, Suntech’s IEC certification process is expected to be cut down from seven months to four months, thus enabling the company to launch latest solar products in the market faster.

Dr. Zhengrong Shi, CEO and Chairman of Suntech, commented that quality is vital to the long-term success for solar companies and Suntech’s commitment to quality gives the customers confidence in its products.

The Suntech’s PV module testing facility is the largest in China as it consists of 1,400sqm and 7,000sqm of indoor and outdoor space respectively. The cutting-edge test equipment consists of a walk-in salt mist chamber, a walk-in UV light chamber, a water vapor test, walk-in climate chambers, pulse and continuous solar simulators, high precision infrared cameras, mechanical load and hail testers and electroluminescence testers. The testing procedures and equipment either exceed or meet the rigid standards of IEC61730-2, IEC61215 and UL1703. The Suntech’s PV module testing facility was the first in China to receive the Underwriters Laboratories Witness Testing Data Program Certificate award in June 2009.
