The LEED India Platinum Rating, world’s highest rating for green buildings, was given to ITC Hotel Royal Gardenia. The luxury hotel belongs to the ITC group and is located in Bengaluru city, India. The achievement makes this hotel the largest platinum rated hotel in the world. This recognition demonstrates the ITC’s commitment to adopt sustainability practices. The energy efficiency strategy adopted by the company has enabled it to become water positive, carbon positive and solid waste recycling positive making it the only company to achieve this feat in the world.
The achievement by the ITC Hotel has added one more green milestone for the company. ITC Green Centre in Gurgaon, which was the largest green building in the world, was chosen by Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State, on her last visit to India to give a speech about Indo-US collaboration on Climate Change. Hilary Clinton called the centre as a "Monument to the Future" after touring the building. The company’s another hotel in Kolkata, ITC Hotel Sonar, has earned carbon credits, the only hotel in the world to achieve this feat. ITC Hotels, in line with the company’s commitment to the "Triple Bottomline" philosophy have followed sustainable practices to provide leadership to positive environmental action in the service sector.
The ITC Royal Gardenia, which is located in a busy urban environment, is a blend of international green practices and contemporary design providing a unique experience to its guests. This hotel provides “Responsible Luxury” by utilizing the elements of nature and adopting contemporary green practices.
Nakul Anand, Chief Executive, ITC Hotels Division, said this hotel represents the company’s vision and is a perfect blend of natural and manmade environment. He further added that real challenge was to see how responsibility and luxury could be in harmony together.
