South Jersey Industries announced the functioning of its solar panel projects at its two local facilities. These solar panel projects have started to generate electricity. The commissioning of these projects is part of the company’s goal to reduce carbon footprint.
Edward J. Graham, Chairman, CEO and President of South Jersey Industries, remarked that the company’s commitment to green and efficient energy use is reflected by these solar panel projects. The company, according to Graham, is turning its attention to other measures that will bring about reductions in the level of energy consumption and help in the development of renewable energy projects.
Solar panels were installed at two locations that include South Jersey Gas’ McKee City and South Jersey Industries Folsom-based headquarters. The Folsom project involved a 50kW roof-mounted system consisting of 210 solar modules that is expected to generate 60,000 kWh per year. The entire output from the solar panels will be utilized by the building to help meet its energy requirements.
A 651kW ground-mounted facility, which is part of the McKee City project consists of 2,772 panels that is spread over two acres of open land. In its first year of operation, this facility is expected to generate as estimated amount of 886,000 kWh. The electricity produced by the solar panels will be utilized for various operations carried out in the facility. The panels were installed by Marina Energy, a subsidiary unit of South Jersey Industries, which will also take up the task of maintaining these panels.
Mike Renna, Chief Operating Officer for South Jersey Energy Solutions, remarked that the company is proud to help its parent company to adopt various green and feasible energy opportunities. These solar panel projects will enable South Jersey Industries to reduce their electricity costs as well as contribute to a sustainable and renewable energy future.
