Satcon Technology Corporation has delivered 23 MW of its PowerGate® Plus 500kW solar PV inverters to GCL Solar Limited. The inverters will be deployed in GCL’s Jiming Hill Xunzhou solar plant, which is capable of generating 20 MW of power, and for its 3-MW Yancheng Guoneng rooftop installation. Satcon Technology is one of the leading providers of utility scale power solutions in the renewable energy market.
The 20-MW Xunzhou solar plant, which was activated on 30th December 2009, is situated on 99 acres of hillside in the Xuzhou City Jiangsu Province. This project is expected to operate for about 1,300 hours per year and generate approximately 26,000,000 kWh of power annually. It is the first project of this size to be completed in a short span of three and a half months successfully in the country.
The 3-MW Yancheng Guoneng rooftop installation is capable of producing 3,370,000 kWh of solar power per annum. This grid-connected solar installation is mounted on factory rooftop covering 46 million square meters. This rooftop solar installation is the largest in China. The entire project was completed in 75 days.
Dr. Gu Huamin, General Manager of GCL Solar Limited, said that the two projects underscore China’s commitment for utility-scale solar power projects. Gu Huamin added that both the projects feature latest technologies.
Satcon’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Rhoades, said that the company is delighted to collaborate with GCL Solar for these projects and hoped to partner with it in many more projects in the future.
About 7,550 tons of standard coal is expected to be saved by the 20-MW Xunzhou solar facility and approximately 20,155 tons of carbon dioxide emissions is anticipated to be decreased. The Yancheng rooftop project is expected to decrease 2,743 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
