Loy Yang Power Signs Agreement to Undertake Carbon Capture Study

Loy Yang Power, which operates a 2200 MW brown coal fired power station in Victoria's Latrobe Valley, has signed an agreement to undertake a site specific feasibility study into carbon capture using the world's most advanced technology.

EESTech Inc. publicly traded on the US Bulletin Board, with its technology development centre in Brisbane, Australia. EESTech is a specialist in economically, environmentally, sustainable technologies.

EESTech owns the exclusive Asia-Pacific rights to the HTC Purenergy C02 Capture System ("CCS") to extract C02 from the flue gas stream of coal and gas fired power stations for subsequent storage either in underground aquifers or depleted oil and gas fields.

Development of this system has been undertaken over the past fifteen years at the world renowned International Test Centre for C02 Capture at the University of Regina, Canada.

The HTC carbon capture system is the world's first pre engineered, modular CO2 capture system, which can be retrofitted onto existing power plants.

When integrated with EESTech's Hybrid Coal Gas Turbine, which utilises waste coal, methane or biomass, to produce the energy required. The combined technologies become the world's first stand-alone carbon capture system which significantly reduces the cost of C02 capture.

Loy Yang Power Chief Executive Ian Nethercote welcomed the agreement which he said would further complement Loy Yang Power's commitment to brown coal research and development.

"This project will build on our current research and development activities which are focused on identifying new technologies to reduce C02 emissions from brown coal power stations.

"Identifying and developing viable new technologies will be critical to the sustainable utilisation of the Latrobe Valley's abundant brown coal resource. Pre drying and post carbon capture and storage technologies are seen as prospective pathways to achieving low or near zero emissions from brown coal," he said.

Graeme Lynch Chief Operating Officer of EESTech said that the signing of the agreement allows EESTech to demonstrate how its market leading C02 management technologies can deliver a fully optimized, site-specific C02 processing plant in support of Loy Yang Power's Clean Coal objectives.

"We are delighted with the signing of this agreement and look forward to our collaboration with Loy Yang Power," he said.
