Henkels + McCoy Denies Responsibility for Wind Power Project Delay

Henkels & McCoy (H & M) said that the company is being unfairly held responsible for the delay in the commencement of the Hometown WindPower project. The company was engaged by the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) for the installation of 12 refurbished wind turbines.

Pennsylvania-based H & M said the company has fully complied with all the contractual responsibilities related to the MMPA’s Hometown WindPower project. The company, which has a local office in Lakeville, has taken exception to some of the public statements attributing the delay to the company for the commencement of the project. The company said that it has completed the job as per the contract and would like to see the full operation of the turbines to provide renewable energy to consumers in 11 communities that are served by MMPA.

MMPA has purchased the wind turbines from a California supplier. For the installation of the refurbished wind turbines, it has hired H & M. The company, as per the contract terms, had no responsibility or role for the selection of turbine, specifications, design, or for the installation locations. H & M was not asked for advice regarding the turbines’ operational suitability and climate compatibility. The turbines were operating for several years in California.

All of H & M’s work, as per the contract, was tested and verified successfully by a third party testing agency that was engaged by MMPA. The company has repeatedly informed the project officials that it has completed all the requirements as per the contract with MMPA.
