PV Powered announced that the largest utility-scale solar power plant in the Northwest will use its PowerVault DC-to-medium voltage turnkey inverter platform. The first project will start in April 2010 and additional 5-MW projects will be installed in the same year. Obsidian Finance Group of Portland is developing the project, which is located in Lake County, Oregon.
Management and Consulting division of Swinerton Inc. will be handling the construction and engineering procurement from its office at San Diego. Under a 20-year power purchase agreement entered into with a large utility in Pacific Northwest, Obsidian Finance will be managing the project.
PowerVault inverter platform will be utilized in this ground-mount solar power project. This turnkey inverter power plant, which is factory-assembled, has on one side DC inputs and on the other side medium voltage outputs. The enclosure for the inverter, apart from protecting from vandalism, also provides ideal environment for servicing. The integrated design of the product removes the need for conduits between components, trenching, and separate pads, substantially reducing costs.
George W. Hershman, Vice President/Division Manger of Swinerton Inc.’s Renewable Energy Group, said that Swinerton Green is delighted to be working with PV Powered inverters on these projects. Hershman commented that the company’s core values are consistent with PV Powered’s commitment to customer service and long-term reliability. The company is anticipating the projects to be successful for the environment, the local community and for all stakeholders.
