Solarfun Power Holdings Introduces “ECLIPSE” PV Cells and Modules

A new generation of PV cells and modules called “Eclipse” was introduced by Solarfun Power Holdings, a leading manufacturer of silicon ingots, PV cells and modules in China. These new line of modules and PV cells feature reduced LID (light induced degradation).

In PV modules, the largest percentage of LID takes place during the first day of its exposure to sun. "ECLIPSE" line of products has low concentration of impurity resulting in reduced LID of about 1% from 2% to 3% which translates to less than 2 W for a 180-W module when compared to LID of 4 W to 5 W for standard modules of the same capacity.

President of Solarfun, Peter Xie, said that the company has committed a significant amount of resources for the development of innovative products and is happy with the introduction of "ECLIPSE" line featuring reduced LID. Peter Xie added that the advancement was possible due to company’s capability to have a greater control of the raw materials during the entire production process. The company was able to reduce the impurity concentration in cells by adjusting manufacturing process. Though the cells have low concentration of impurity, the output yield remains high.
