Envent Holding Philippines announced that its Geothermal Service Contract with the Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) for its Biliran geothermal project has been converted to a Renewable Energy Service Contract under the new Renewable Energy Act of 2008, thus enhancing the contractual base significantly. Envent Holding is an important developer of geothermal projects in the Philippines.
The new Renewable Energy legislation was passed on December 16, 2008 and Biliran Geothermal Incorporated, which is executing the project, will utilize various incentives in the new legislation for the Biliran geothermal project. Fiscal incentives in the act include Special Realty Tax Rates on Equipment and Machinery and Income Tax Holiday during the commercial operation for the first seven years.
Envent Holding is a developer of geothermal projects in the Philippines and Indonesia and the Biliran island project is the company’s most advanced project. The company is preparing many applications for submission in Indonesia for new geothermal working areas. In Philippines, the company’s multiple applications submitted to the government for new geothermal working areas is pending with the Philippine DOE for consideration.
Envent has entered into power purchase agreements for the Biliran geothermal project, valued at over USD 350 million. Biliran Unit 1, which has a capacity of 50 MW. The project is planned to make online in 2012.
