NV Energy has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Pattern Energy Group for the sale of electricity produced from a wind power project that is proposed to be constructed in eastern Nevada.
The Spring Valley Wind Project with a capacity of 150 MW would be the major wind project in Nevada. More than 150 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase and about 10 full-time jobs during its operation. The project is anticipated to start producing power by late 2011.
Michael Yackira, President and Chief Executive Officer, NV Energy, said the power purchase agreement with Pattern Energy is a significant move to expand the company’s renewable energy portfolio. Yackira commented that the company is delighted to add more energy from renewable energy sources for its customers.
Currently, NV Energy has about 1,000 MW of solar, geothermal, hydro, biomass, waste-heat recovery, and wind power under contract or in the project development stage in its renewable energy portfolio.
