Miller 2.9kW Grid-Tied Solar Electric System Installed by Rain or Shine

Rain or Shine has installed a range of grid-tied and off-grid solar power systems. The 2.9kW grid-tied solar electric system, installed by the company, is located at San Luis Obispo in California. Before the installation of solar power system, the residents were using utility power provided by PG+E supplied from the Diablo nuclear power plant. The solar power system at Miller’s house includes 18 Sharp manufactured solar panels, each with 165-watt capacity. The system also incorporates an inverter, manufactured by Sunvista.

The roof of the Miller house is flat, so that 18 solar modules are mounted on racks, which are positioned in a tilted position. The solar panels are tilted to have maximum exposure to sun and harness maximum solar energy. After installing the solar PV system, the homeowners had been getting electrical bills with negative balance. The solar power generator system fulfills 100 percent of the energy needs of Miller family of five members.

As the excess solar power is fed back to the utility grid, the solar power system also supplies electricity to the neighbors as well. The solar power system, offered by Rain or Shine, helps in saving the money of Millers and also has increased the value of their house. The homeowners got rebate from California Energy Commission and will further receive a tax credit from the state. This also helped Millers to recover a portion of the installation cost for the solar electric system.
